Effect of Pressure on the Direct Energy Gap of LiH

The direct energy gap of LiH has been measured at RT ttnder high pressure up to48 GPa. The gap, estimated from the peak energy of the n = 1 exciton in the reflectance spectra, decreases from 4.94 eV at normal pressure to 4.52 eV at 48 GPa. Thepressure coefficient of the gap decreases from 0.5meV/GPa at 0GPa to -11meV / GPa at 48 GPa. No discontinuity of peak energy is observed up to 48 GPa. Theinsulator to metal transition pressure is estimated to be about 400 GPa.energy gap, high pressure, reflectance spectra, LiH, insulator metal transition.
