In view of the renewed interest in using it as the theoretical model for newlydiscovered high-I. oxide superconductors, the excitonic mechanism, i.e., the attrac-lion between metallic electrons via virtual electron-hole pair excitations, is refor-mulated within the framework of RPA and in a form free from the criticism raised byInkson and Anderson against the excitonic attracl-ion.
