We investigate the structural phase transition in TTF-TCNQ at 38 K by the useof a model of coupled phasons. Taking account of the coupling between chargedensity waves with wavevector 4k(?, we find that a commensurate structure withthe 4a periodicity along the a-axis is stabilized at zero temperature, and that afirst-order phase transition takes place from it to an incommensurate screw-typestructure when temperature increases.
