A coupled system of electrons and transverse phonons is studied in one dimen-sional conductors with finite width, It is shown that transverse phonons withwavenumber k. becomes unstable at low temperatures, if the gap between theFeruni energy and the bottom of the upper subband is sufficiently narrow.
