Magnetic Scattering of Neutrons by the Clusters in Co-Rich CoAl Compounds

The magnetism of Coal cornpound near stoichiometry has been interpreted interms of local moment on the excess Co atoms. To investigate this model, we haveobserved small angle magnetic scattering of neutrons in Co-rich Coal compoundsat liq.He, liq. N. and room temperatures. It is shown after the cluster modelanalysis that this scattering is not due to the Coal cluster but the precipitatedCo atom cluster. This is supported by X-ray diffraction experiments.
