• A fornatrla has been deduced, based on the sirtaple binary tonic structtrre and ftrndamentalconcepts of lattice vibrations. It cotaabines both the IIIOSS and interatomic distance effects, Thismodel accounted well for the observed f'reqtrency shif'ts of the 52 and 84 Clll ' bands of KlN03 IIin the solid soltrtions of RbNO3 in KNO3 II (denoted as Kj .Rb.NO3 (KIT)). For ionic crystalscontaining planar NO.- , our rnethod appeared to xvork better than the lattice dynatnic analysisbased on the rigid ton tnodel.
