Electronic structure is calculated for LaSn. by a self-consistent relativisUic APWmethod with the one-electron potential in the local-density approximation. LaSn, is areference for the mixed-valence compound CeSn, in which the 4f electrons haverecently been proven to be itinerant and contribute directly to the formation of theFermi surface. Here, the relation between the Fermi surfaces of LaSn. and CeSn. is investigated. The main Fermi surface of LaSn, consists of a distorted hole sphere and anetwork with slender arms, both of which are connected with small necks. Thesesheets can explain the de Haas-van Alphen effect and the high-field magnetoresistancereasonably well. The distorted hole sphere in LaSn. and the hole sheet in CeSn.originate from the eighth band, and look similar to each other. In CeSn, the electronsheet exists as a result of compensation.[LaSn., CeSn., itinerant 4f electrons, band theory, local-density approximation, l] relativistic APW method, Fermi surfacel
