We studied the chaotic beFnaviour of soliton-like pulses in a modified Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation under the influence of an external force 7(Z): cp,A-cf>"cp.-Facp..Arf3cp...-I-ycp....A-vcp=t7(t). Our findings are as follows: (i) when the equation has theGalilean invariance (p=l), the external force 77(Z) does not promote chaoticbehaviour of soliton-like pulses and (ii) when the equation does not have the Galileaninvariance (p=2), irregular creations and annihilations of solitons and holes in thetraveling state appear which may be due to the interaction of solitons, holes and radia-tions.
