The electrochemical and magnetic properties of polyazulene have been studied byelectrochemical cyclic voltammetry and ESR. Two pairs of oxidation and reductionpeaks have been observed in the cyclic voltammogram which indicates that reversiblep-type doping. The anomalous behavior of the spin susceptibility z upon elec-trochemical doping, associated with these redox peaks in the cyclic voltammogram,has been revealed by the in situ measurement; the extraordinary large z=ca. 4 X 10 'emu/mol in the neutral state once decreases upon doping to 2 X 10 ' emu/mol atseveral mol% and then increases up to ca. 7 X 10 ' emu/mol corresponding to the as-grown state at co. 25 mold, and then decreases again at higher doping levels. Theseresults can be interpreted as two-stages doping (oxidation) process into polyazulenewith a unique band structure.
