Concerning the sound velocity of pure metals at the melting point, the signif-icance of the jump occurring between solid and liquid phases was considered. It was found that (1) the magnitude of the jump of the sound velocity decreaseswith increasing atomic weight when the elements with the same valency arecompared, (2) the shear-wave velocity in solid phase just below the melting tem-perature can be evaluated from the sound velocities in the solid and liquid phasesat the melting point, (3) the Lindemann constant is shown to be dependent onthe crystal lattice structure.
