Experiment on Recurrence in Nonlinear LC Circuit

The recurrence of an initial wave:form in a nonlinear LC circuit whj,ch is equiva-leuat to the Toda lattice is studied cxperimentally. When initial wave amplitude issmall enough, we find that the recurrence length is independent of W8N'C amplitude,but is determined only by the frequency. The amplitude of the seco:rtd harmonicwave is also observed as a futaction of the distance. The results ofl small waveamplitude agree with the theory of weak nonlinearity. As the wave amplitude isincreased, the recurrence length becomes shorter in proportion to .4-"', where-A denotes the initial wave amplitude. Similarities and dissimilarities, between therecurrence in the discrete medium and that of the continuous systent such as theKorteweg-do Vries equation are carefully examined.
