Electron Heating by Ion Acoustic Turbulence in Plasmas

Anomalous resistivity caused by ton acoustic turbulence is observed in acurrent-carrying discharge-tube plasma. Above 0.05 V/cm, which is nearly equalto a critical field predicted from an electron collision frequency, the resistivityincreases in proportion to the electric field. When a magnetic field is applied tothe plasma in the presence of the ion acoustic turbulence, the electron temperaturerises. It is found that the electron heating is brought about by the turbulenthalting.
