Roles of intra- and infer-molecular interactions in the melting transition of polymercrystals are studied. Polyethylene crystals are taken up and the melting is assumed totake place with cooperative excitation of double kinks. Intra- and infer-molecularinteractions make the melting transition broaden and sharpen, respectively. The effectthat intramolecular interactions make the melting broaden is peculiar to polymers andis one of the reasons for diffuseness of the melting of polymer crystals.
