The Glau ber scattering amplitudes for arbitrary transitions of the hydrogen atom byproton (or electron) impact have been obtained in a closed form. The inelastic crosssections between highly excited states of the hydrogen atom by electron impact arecalculated and compared with the Born cross sections. At energies below a few eV, theGlauber cross sections are smaller than the Born cross sections by an order-of-magnitude
