Electric monopole and quadrupole transitions from the first and second K'=0" band states in "'Gd are observed through the decay of "'Tb with a highresolution iron-free magnetic spectrometer. Electric quadrupole transition matrixelenaents for the /j-band states are deduced from an analysis of ratios ?Qp,(Ip -I;)/eR'p(Ip -I.). The decrease of the rotation vibration interaction energy for highspin states of the /j-band is discussed. Dimensionless ratios X(I. - 72) for the second0" band are deduced as follows; J(0. -0,)=0.056f0.009 and X(2. -2,)=O.O69-I-0.011. The branching ratio of EO reduced transition probabilities, ,c>(0. -Op)/z(Ox -Ou), is found to be<0.3. The rossibilit>z of the second ecuuilibrium deforma-lion is discussed for the second A"=0" band.
