The radiation of an oscillating electric dipole which moves in a dispersive medium is treated theoretically. Formulas are obtained for the time-averaged radiation power emitted by the dipole both in the rest frame of the medium and the rest frame of the dipole. The difference between them is proved to be attributable to the mechanical work done on the dipole to maintain its motion through the medium. The anomalous Doppler effect is discussed in a medium with spatial dispersion. A possibility is shown that the dipole is accelerated as a result of radiation reaction.
