The linear axisymmetric stability of a stretching capillary jet with parabolic axial velocity is investigated, numerically. Since the basic flow is time-dependent, the stability analysis is reduced to an initial-value problem of ordinary differential equations, in-stead of an eigenvalue problem for normal modes. It is shown that a parabolic velocity profile has a remarkable stabilizing effect.
