We investigate the periodic Anderson model by a variational Monte Carlo method. A newwave f'unction is proposed based on the well-known Gtrtzwiller wave function. We calculate thephysical properties using the IN/Ionte Carlo algorithrn to consider the strong correlation effects.The ground state energy is irnproved considerably by taking into accovxnt electron-hole excitationeffects.
