A methodology is developed which provides a systematic way to find the novel exact solutions of the nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) model with varying dispersion, nonlinearity, and gain or absorption. Soliton solutions in three kinds of optical fibers represented by coefficient varying NLS equations are studied in detail. Some new exact solutions of optical soliton in these models are reported.
