Electrophoresis of a Polyelectrolyte in a Space with Immobile Obstacles

An extended bond fluctuation method for polyelectrolytes undergoing gel electrophoresis in 3 dimensions is presented and dynamics of a single molecule under steady field gel electrophoresis is studied by the method. Quasi-periodic behavior in time development of a longer radius of the principal axes R_l(t) is reproduced. Averages of the peak shape of R_l(t) and of the displacements of front, center, and rear parts, scaled by the peak height and the oscillation period, are quantitatively in good agreement with the corresponding experimental results.
