Optical Absorption Spectra of Model Mixed Crystals : The Effect of Randomness in the Transition Dipole Moments

Optical absorption spectra of model mixed crystals whose lowest excited states are single-Frenkel-exciton states are investigated with particular attention to the effect of the difference in the transition dipole moments of the constituents of the mixed crystals. The coherent-potential approximation is employed in evaluating the configurationally averaged propagator of the Frenkel exciton. It is found that the absorption coefficients have a simple dependence on the transition dipole moments and that the difference in the transition dipole moments has several remarkable effects of the nuclei in a mixed crystal has similar effects on the coherent one-phonon neutron scattering intensity.
