On the basis of the [χθ^^-] model for baryons and the assumption that two-body transitions among the hypothetical triplet χ_α are forbidden, we derive, without using the SU(3) symmetry, sum rules for the nonleptonic decays of hyperons which coincide with the Sugawara-Lee relation and the relation derived in our previous paper in the unitary symmetry limit. Then we attempt to derive the |ΔI| = 1/2 rule in two ways, by applying the Okubo-Marshak-Sudarshan theory and by using the results recently derived by Sugawara and Suzuki. We can derive some relations between the decay amplitudes which are essentially equivalent to the |ΔI| =1/2 rule.
