A systematic approach to hadron total cross sections in the quark parton model is presented. In this approach parton-parton interaction is field-theoretically treated and is mediated by color-octet gluon. It is shown that total cross section s consist of nondiffractive and diffractive components, and not only the increase at extremely high energies but also the decrease in the diffractive component at relatively low energies is obtained, Agreement between measured and calculated cross sections is reasonable. A physical interpretation of the value of the parameter used in fit is discussed.
