In recent years, perfipheral quantitative computed tomongraphy (pQCT) has been developed and can measure bone mass and density non-invasively in animal studies. We have compared the results obtained from pQCT analysis with that from histomporphometrical analysis using contract micro radiograph (CMR) to evaluate the usefulness of pQCT. Compared with the conventional method in which 2-dimensional results obtained from CMR was extrapolated to 3-dimensional ones, pQCT was able to assess bone mass and ensity with higher accuracy.
