The antennal sensilla of the yellow spotted longicorn beetle, Psacothea hilaris (PASCOE) were studied with a scanning electron microscope to determine their structures and distribution. Ten types of sensilla;s.chaetica (type-I, II and III), s.basiconia(type-I, II and III), s.trichodea, conical pegs, dome organs and s.squamiformia were identified on the antennal flagellum. The s. chaetica type-I occurred on lateral sides of the flagellum and was abundant on the female antennae. The type-II s. chaeticum was located dorsally and laterally on distal edges of the flagellomeres and appeared to be a proprioceptor. The s. chaetica type-III were the most abundant (ca.60,000)sensilla type on the flagellum and are thought to be mechanoreceptors. The s. basiconica type-I and II were typical multiporous olfactory receptors. Their total numbers were 16,000 for females and 18,600 for males. The third type of s. basiconica was also an olfactory receptor, but occurred in low numbers. Five hundred s. trichodea were found in both sexes. Conical pegs structurally similar to a hygro- or thermoreceptor were always found in a cuticular depression as were the dome organs. Only one s. squamiformium was found on a male antenna.
