Three group of bacteriophages specific on pathogenic O-157, salmonella and vibrio have been isolated from natural samples. These phages form clean plaque(or spot)on each host bacterium. Three pathogenc bacterium which cause nearly 95% of food poisoning (40,000-50,000 patients in each year in Japan) were grown in selective medium and spotted with their specific phages allowed us to confirm the existence of bacteria in the starting materials. This simple, rapid and cost effective process is very powerful and useful when numerous number of foods are checked in daily bases. Safety foods confirmed by reliable method does prevent a disaster.
