The author develops in this article a discussion on privacy and protection of informations concerning private affairs in the information society. Highly advanced communication technologies have enablel us to immediately know what occurred in far countries or regions. Such an advance, however, has increasingly deprived us of an opportunity to gain a direct access to the original source of informations. Japanese people everyday receive a large quantity of information emitted through many communication media. They seem satisfied to possess informations without paying any attention to their credibility. As for the protection of informations concerning private affairs, likewise, Japanese people are far from the satisfactory level of understanding of which informations actually must be protected. The highly advanced information society has been accompanied with a contemporary type of issues of privacy violation, which is a dark side of this society. We must continue to cast light on this side.
