Recently, nature-oriented river works in Japan have been improved through many case studies. but, the ecological monitoring after the river works is so far insufficient. In this respect, the species diversity of biota, particularly that of benthic animals and fishes, is considered suitableas an indicator for evaluationg the reasonability of the river works. In this study, the results of observation on restoration of bentic animals and fishes communities after the construction river works are reported.(1) The restoration period of benthic animals communities after flooding was shorter than that of the river constructions.(2) After nature-oriented river works, benthic animals required from 6 months to year for the restoration of their community, and fishes required more long time.(3) In the river channel in which stream-side vegetation were being conserved, discharge capacity was obstructed owing to increased roughness coefficient. Hydraulics of the nature-oriented channel is an issue to be analyzed further.
