Existing studies mainly use the Instream Flow Incremental Methodology (IFIM) to study fish. Studies analyzing the diversity of benthic organisms are rare. Therefore, the optimal flow of benthic organisms is not fully described. The current study evaluates the environmental conditions and optimal native habitat for the existence of benthic organisms. In the current study, the main branch of the Tama River was surveyed, representing a river with dams. The Hirai River, Aki River, and North Asa River were investigated, representing rivers without dams. Benthic organisms are particularly susceptible to natural and artificial influence in rivers. Using IFIM, the optimal flow occurs naturally at the Aki River and North Asa River, but was not observed in the Tama River with dams. The flood disturbances of a suitable scale were explained using the probability of exceedence flow regime curve and the Simpson index.
