In recent years, new lightweight aggregates with low water absorptance were developed. These are pelletized and coated artificial lightweight aggregates made from finely ground perlite powder, a binder and a gas-forming agent. In this study, properties of compressive strength and frost resistance of new lightweight aggregate concrete were experimentally investigated. It suggested from these experiments that concrete using new lightweight aggregate is superior to concrete using conventional lightweight aggregate, which has higher absorptance, on properties of compressive strength and frost resistance.
