The cross-field injection of the intense ion beam has been proposed and tested as a method of creating rotating ion layers. Part of 90 keV ions in the beam are found to be trapped in a magnetic field of 5 kG and to be alive for a time longer than one gyroperiod with use of this method. An azimuthal current of the trapped ions is observed with a peak intensity of about 0.3 A/cm^2. The trapped ions are widely distributed along the magnetic field because of a field-aligned expansion of the beam.
