The influence of the reactant materials (Al_2O_3(A), η-Al_2O_3,α-Al_2O_3) on the formation of ZnAl_2O_4 was studied by means of powder X-ray diffraction analysis and optical microscope. The results are follow : 1. The result of the present experiment is considered to be free from the effect of the difference in the size and shape of Al_2O_3 and ZnO used as reactants for the reaction of ZnAl_2O_4 formation, since these substance are confirmed to be similar in shape (globular) and nearly the same in average particle diameter (1.8 to 1.5μm). 2. The rate of reaction was measured using various forms of Al_2O_3 as a reactant at the temperature ranging from 800 to 1200℃. The rate was found to follow the Jander's equation from which the rate constant and the activation energy were calculated. 3. The reactivity as expressed by the rate constant followed the order of Al_2O_3 (A)>η-Al_2O_3>α-Al_2O_3 and the activation energy obtained was 37,40 and 73 kcal/mol for Al_2O_3(A), η-Al_2O_3 and α-Al_2O_3,respectively. 4. Crystallographic properties were in accord with the above series.
