Influence of Aluminum Sulfate Concentration and Urea Content upon Particle Diameter of Alumina Hydrate Gel Synthesized by Homogeneous Precipitation Method

The influence of the concentration of aluminum sulfate and the content of urea as a precipitant upon the particle shape and diameter of alumina hydrate gel synthesized by homogeneous precipitation method was studied using such methods as continuous pH measurement, powder X-ray diffraction analysis and electron microscopic examination. The results are as follows : 1. When (NH_2)_2CO/Al_2(SO_4)_3 ration was high, the induction and production stages for the formation of alumina hydrate gel were shorter. 2. The precipitate obtained was granular in electron microscopic examination and was amorphous in powder X-ray diffraction analysis. 3. When the concentration of aluminum sulfate was constant and (NH_2)_2CO/Al_2(SO_4)_3 ratio was higher, the particle diameter of alumina hydrate gel was smaller. 4. When (NH_2)_2CO/Al_2(SO_4)_3 ratio was constant and the concentration of aluminum sulfate was higher, the particle diameter of alumina hydrate gel was larger and the range of the particle diameter was wider.
