Two possible natural hybrids between Chrysanthemum wakasaense and C. morifolium were newly recorded in a small population of C. wakasaense in Tottori Prefecture; they were rather similar in external morphology to C. wakasaense, but had large leaves, large heads with white or pale-yellow ligules, and the chromosome numbers of 2n=62. The plants of C. wakasaense in the same population had the chromosome number of 2n=36 with an exception of 2n=37. The karyotype analysis indicates that the 2n=62 chromosome complement in the possible hybrids could be involved by the 2n=36 chromosomes of C. wakasaense as "doubled half set". Origin of these hybrids is hypothesized as follows : The yellow-flowered C. morifolium having the chromosome number of 2n=53 might be the paternal parent which supplied pollen grains containing n=26 chromosomes derived by an unequal distribution of 2n=53 chromosomes, while C. wakasaense might be the maternal parent. Chromosome doubling in gamete of C. wakasaense might have occurred before or after pollination. Thus, n=18×2=36 chromosomes from C. wakasaense and n=26 chromosomes from C. morifolium might form 2n=62 hybrid-zygote.
