Using the Annual of the Pathological Autopsy Cases in Japan which is edited by the Japanese Pathological Society, the causes of death were compared between 1334 autopsy cases of male woodworkers and 2668 controls matched by age and autopsy institutions from 1970 to 1976. In woodworkers, lung cancer was found 1.30 times as frequently as in the controls (p<0.01). As to the histological types, squamous cell carcinoma was found more frequently in woodworkers, 45.8%, than in the controls, 32.9% (p<0.01).
