In this paper, we investigate grammatical items appearing in Koreantextbooks used mainly at Japanese universities, and makesome remarks on the treatment of fundamental Korean grammaticalpoints in these textbooks. There are many Korean languagetextbooks for the elementary level, but far fewer for the intermediateand advanced levels. Also, many textbooks for the elementarylevel contain grammatical items for constructing basic structures ofsentences such as particles and conjugations. In many elementarytextbooks, the past form, which is one of the most important grammaticalitems in elementary courses, are not covered until the latterpart of the books. This often causes elementary learners to go intointermediate courses without enough practice of past forms. In intermediateand advanced courses, voice, auxiliary verbs, and adjectivesare the main grammatical items which should be taught, butthere are some problems in that these grammatical items are treateddifferently in each textbook. For example, they are sometimesconfused with idioms. Moreover, we note that these technical termsdo not have consensus of usage across textbooks.
