Single crystals of the novel copper molybdenum oxides \eta-CuMoO<inf>4</inf>and \beta-Cu<inf>3</inf>Mo<inf>2</inf>O<inf>9</inf>are synthesized by a hydrothermal method. Both oxides have triclinic unit cells (space group P\bar{1}). The lattice constants of \eta-CuMoO<inf>4</inf>are a = 6.352 Å, b = 6.986 Å, c = 7.447 Å, \alpha = 73.53<sup>\circ</sup>, \beta = 72.98<sup>\circ</sup>, and \gamma = 84.95<sup>\circ</sup>; those of \beta-Cu<inf>3</inf>Mo<inf>2</inf>O<inf>9</inf>are a = 7.391 Å, b = 7.587 Å, c = 7.971 Å, \alpha = 67.133<sup>\circ</sup>, \beta = 89.67<sup>\circ</sup>, and \gamma = 66.20<sup>\circ</sup>. \eta-CuMoO<inf>4</inf>contains the Cu<inf>4</inf>O<inf>16</inf>cluster composed of four corner-shared CuO<inf>6</inf>octahedra, while \beta-Cu<inf>3</inf>Mo<inf>2</inf>O<inf>9</inf>contains the Cu<inf>6</inf>O<inf>16</inf>cluster composed of six CuO<inf>4</inf>squares. The magnetic susceptibility reveals that the magnetism of \beta-Cu<inf>3</inf>Mo<inf>2</inf>O<inf>9</inf>reflects the cluster structure.
