Dielectric Properties of Layered ZnTa2O6/Poly(tetrafluoroethylene) Composites

The effects of ZnTa2O6 content and layered structure on the dielectric properties of ZnTa2O6/poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) composites were investigated at microwave frequency. With increasing ZnTa2O6 content, the dielectric constant (K) and dielectric loss (\tan\delta) of the composites increased due to the K values of the individual components and the microstructure. For the composites with layered structures, \tan\delta was dependent on the internal strain of the composites. Several types of theoretical models were employed to predict the effective K of the composites and the predicted values were compared with experimental data. The temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (TCF) was also discussed as it characterises the thermal stability of the composites. Typically, K of 4.24, \tan\delta of 1.36 \times 10^{-3} and, TCF of 4.75 ppm/°C were obtained for the single layered PTFE composites with 0.2 volume fraction (V_{\text{f}}) of ZnTa2O6.
