To suppress nonlinear effects in optical fibers, we propose phase only pulses (POPs) that exhibit constant amplitude and pulse-shaped phase waveforms and investigate a method of generating these pulses. POPs with two phase waveforms, i.e., $\sech^{2}$- and Gaussian-shaped phase waveforms, are synthesized using an optical pulse synthesizer (OPS). Feedback control of the OPS allows for adjustment of the phase spectra and realization of temporally constant amplitudes and pulse-shaped phase waveforms.
