Newly Designed Neutron Diffraction Cell for Fluids at High Temperatures and High Pressures

A high-pressure and high-temperature cell for neutron diffraction experiments on fluids is developed. The new cell is made of Ti–Zr null-alloy (34% titanium and 66% zirconium) so that the average scattering length for neutrons can be made to be zero. Experimental variables as high pressure and high temperature can be finely controlled for fluids using a known equation of state by setting the cell in a standard IR image furnace. The simple system requires no high pressure-generating and -controlling units.
