A simple yet high-performance signal reception system has been developed for the readout of an imaging plate (photostimulated luminescence screen). This system has the ability to cover a linear dynamic range of more than 5 orders of magnitude with high accuracy using a newly developed high-performance translinear logarithmic converter and a single photomultiplier tube, the linear dynamic range of which is improved markedly.
