Two new- types of delay lines for multiwire proportional chambers (MWPC's) have been developed. The lines are easy to construct and exhibit improved performances over the existing ones. A small flat MWPC using the delay lines has given a position readout accuracy of better than ±0.1 mm and a spatial resolution of better than 0.35 mm for a slit collimated CuK_α X-ray beam. Discussions are given on the potential utility of the MWPC in dynamic studies of rapidly changing structures by X-ray diffraction.
