A fiber-based optical deflection sensor for the detection of leaky waves at air–solid interfaces was developed. Using a laser ultrasonic technique, we developed an experimental system that could realize all-optical excitation and the detection of leaky waves at air–solid interfaces. By experimental measurements, we obtained good waveforms of leaky Rayleigh waves and leaky Lamb waves at an air–aluminum interface. The results show that the sensor has many advantages over those currently available, such as low cost, simple structure, high-frequency response and ease of adjustment.
