Doping Effect on Surface Roughness of Organic Semiconductor Thin Films

Poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) films doped with iodine (I2) or dibenzotetrathiafulvalene (DBTTF) were prepared and the surface morphology was examined by atomic force microscopy. Increasing the I2 concentration, the surfaces of I2-doped P3HT films became rough; in contrast, the surfaces of DBTTF-doped P3HT films were negligibly changed. Electrical properties such as current–voltage characteristics, transistor characteristics and cyclic voltammetry were also measured in these doped P3HT films to determine conductivity, field-effect mobility and redox potential. DBTTF-doped P3HT films with relatively flat surfaces did not give good electric performance.
