3B08 Orientation of chiral chain in an antiferroelectric liquid crystal TFMS_xPOBC-d_2 as observed by polarized IR spectroscopy of CD_2 stretching vibrations

We have investigated the polarization dependence of FT-IR of stretching of CD_2 in chiral chain of TFMH_xPOBC-d_2 (4-(1, 1, 1, - trifluoromethylhexyl-3-d_2 oxycarbonyl)phenyl 4'-octyloxybiphenyl caboxylate) using a homeotropic cell. The difference of polarization dependence has been observed between SC^* and SC_A^*. It implies that the biased or hindered direction of chiral chain much more approach to tilt plane for SC^*_A than that for SC^*.
