The Fano's equation (FE) describes electron transition from the ground state to the excited state. We show that FE is valuable for describing the far-field transmission of light in optical systems. FE is also effective in estimating the transmission behaviors at various resonance conditions, which are investigated in transmission experiments by using two kinds of comparative samples: periodical hexagonal arrays of Al2O3 with and without multiwall carbon nanotubes. Our experimental results show that FE complements Maxwell's equations even in the waveguide problem and provides a clear and simple analysis.
