A friction force study was systematically performed on the (010) surface of a polydiacetylene (PDA) single crystal. The results indicated a decrease in friction forces along the [001], [102], [101], [100], [$10\bar{1}$] directions. Such frictional features were clarified with respect to the polymerization directions, crystallographic directions and the lines on lattice defects. The [001] direction with a minimum friction force corresponds to the polymerization direction. The result of white beam X-ray topography strongly supports the results of friction force microscope (FFM).
