The composition of the core of the magnetic pigment of an audio tape has been determined to be 2 at.% Co–1.8 at.% Ni–Fe by the Mössbauer technique and X-ray fluorescence analysis. The hyperfine field $H_{\text{hf}}$ is $336\pm 2$ kOe, which is slightly stronger than that of pure Fe.
