We developed an infinitesimal concentration hydrogen analyzer. The analyzer was constructed by incorporating the functions of a gas chromatograph and an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The present analyzer has a carrier gas purifier, a sample gas purifier and a trace reduction detector (TRD). To estimate the sensitivity of the analyzer, we measured test sample gases with hydrogen concentrations below 100 ppb. These low-concentration hydrogen gases were prepared with a gas mixer that has three mass flow controllers with different control ranges. The results proved that the analyzer has the ability of detecting 5 ppb of hydrogen. This means that the analyzer is 1000 times more sensitive to hydrogen than a conventional gas chromatograph with a thermal conductivity detector.
