The general concept on the preparation of thin films of amorphous silicon and its related materials from fluorides is discussed from a chemical point of view in contrast with that from hydrides.Hydrogen atoms play important roles not only in generating the precursors responsible for the deposition but also in forming the Si-Si network in the film in co-operation with fluorine atoms on the silicon atoms.It has led us to new techniqu estermed as HRCVD and Chemical Deposition for preparing high quality a-Si: H : (F) and its related materials.
